Protest group to launch blimp

Anti-wind farm protesters will be proving their campaign is not just a load of hot air when they launch an 18 foot blimp into the skies above Drayton.

The bright yellow airship will be launched by the Vortex Wind Action Group to a height of 105 metres – the exact height of each of the seven turbines which energy company Nuon Renewables are expected to announce plans for in Dorrington.

The blimp will be sent on seven trips, one for each of the turbines, beginning at 11am at Woore Hall Farm, near Woore on Boxing Day followed by voyages to other sites around Dorrington up until New Years Day.

Vortex campaigner Tina Roberts said the flights were designed to give residents a clear perspective of just how high the turbines would be.

She said: β€œIt will be up there for a week because it is quite difficult to visualise. Hopefully it will educate people on how high it will be.”

She added that the group expected Nuon to submit plans for the turbines before the New Year but said the group would be ready to intensify their protest at anytime.

There will be also be an anti-windfarm walk by Vortex campaigners starting at 11am on New Years Day at Woore Hall Farm.
