Plans for an 'iconic' turbine

A Derbyshire shopping centre wants to install a wind turbine to supply half its power.

McArthur Glen, which owns the East Midlands Designer Outlet, in South Normanton, has applied to Bolsover District Council to build the turbine at the back of the complex.

It would provide up to half the centre’s energy needs and reduce its carbon emissions by 1,600 tonnes a year.

If built, it would be 95 metres tall from its base to the tip of the blades.

Centre manager John Ralston said: “We believe this would create an iconic structure visible to all who travel on the nearby M1 motorway. It would make us one of the most environmentally-friendly shopping centres in Britain.”

To find out more, ask at the centre’s information desk or call its information line on 01773 545020.
