Take a look at France's way

Thank goodness there is at least one brave, sensible European Government leader that is putting his foot down and ending industrial wind turbine development in rural areas and in wild areas of his country. Let’s applaud President Sarkozy of France.

On October 6, 1,500 people lobbied ministers at meetings in Paris and many of their demands have been accepted, among them important issues like protecting the health of the people from wind turbine nuisance, protecting the cultural and natural heritage of France and restoring peace in the villages. They recognise that this industry degrades the environment. He has promised to review the huge monetary support that the industry receives, which as we all know drives and encourages the production of this intermittent energy. Paris is the first European city to mount a demonstration against this turbine industry and it has been very successful. France is showing Europe that a low carbon energy policy is possible without destroying the countryside .

This is in stark contrast to what is happening here in Wales as the First Minister announced last week that large areas of our forests are now to be trashed to make way for between 50 and 70 huge wind turbines, a network of accompanying roads, substations and overhead power cables between Bontgoch and Nantymoch. How could anyone even conceive of destroying such an area? When will our ministers admit and recognise that building massive wind turbines on our unspoilt hills degrades our environment forever?
