Gamesa Energy USA wants to build dozens of wind turbines in Blair and Centre counties.
About ten or fifteen of those wind turbines would be in Tyrone and not everyone is happy about that.
Gamesa is planning to build 25 windmills for the Sandy Ridge Project.
They would be spread across land in Snyder Township Blair County and Taylor Township Centre County. Ten to fifteen of those would be on Ice Mountain in Tyrone.
Gamesa will hold an informational session next week to help residents understand the project.
People in Tyrone are split pretty even when it comes to the wind mills.
People against them say the construction of the turbines will pollute the mountain streams. They say just the construction of the roads to get to the ridge will cause too much run off into the streams. They’re also concerned about the safety of birds and bats that follow the ridge line.
And finally some say they’re just not convinced that turbines will save enough money to make them worthwhile.
Those for them say we need to do anything we can to come up with an alternative source of energy.
The informational session will be Wednesday December 5th at the Tyrone Senior Center.
