Eight turbines on a large swathe of arable land between Baumber and Wispington will form the Horncastle area’s first wind farm if plans are approved.
The company behind the scheme, Enertrag UK Ltd, has so far mainly operated in Norfolk and Suffolk but project manager Terry Chapelhow told the News: “We are going UK-wide now and Lincolnshire is one of the areas we are looking at.”
The 2-3megawatt turbines would be constructed at Chase Farm, Baumber, over a seven to nine-month period, four of them each side of Bardney Road, Baumber.
Each would reach a maximum height of 125 metres: the hub height would be 85m and the rotor blade diameter 90m.
“We have asked East Lindsey District Council to tell us what they want done for the environmental impact assessment that we have to produce,” Mr Chapelhow said.
“That assessment will then be submitted along with the planning application.”
Mr Chapelhow said surveys usually showed between 70 and 80 per cent of the British public to be in support of wind farms and Enertrag hoped the Baumber scheme would be viewed favourably.
There were a few homes in the area but each would be at least 700m away from a turbine, he added.
A dozen parish councils in the area are being consulted along with bodies like the Ministry of Defence, the Civil Aviation Authority, wildlife organisations and communications companies.
“Negotiations with the landowner are complete and a contract has been entered into with Enertrag UK Ltd to allow the site to be developed should planning consent be obtained,” according to the company.
“Once the wind farm is operational agricultural use will continue.”
