Building work will start on a village wind farm next year.
Suffolk Coastal District Council has given the final go-ahead for work on six wind turbines to start at Parham airfield, near Framlingham.
Planning permission for Saxon Windpower’s proposals was originally given in July 2006 following unanimous backing by councillors in October 2005.
“When we gave permission, it was clear under national planning guidance that this district should be playing its part in encouraging renewable energy schemes,” said Gordon Laing, vice-chairm
an of the development control committee of Suffolk Coastal Council.
“We insisted on a number of conditions to minimise as much as possible th impact on the community and these will have to be met during its construction.”
The site is on part of a 310-hectare farm in the parishes of Parham, Great Glemham and Marlesford and the power company said it was expecting to generate enough electricity to meet the average needs of about 3,000 homes.
The turbines will be almost 100 metres tall, consisting of 26.5-metre blades on 73.25m towers.
The relevant parish councils were given the news on Monday afternoon and Cllr Laing said: “I hope the announcement will bring an end to all the uncertainty about the scheme.
“It is hoped that the first green wind-generated power will be coming from Parham by Christmas 2008.”
