Logans face financial ruin over pylon plan

Kenny Logan, the former Scotland rugby star, and his wife, the TV presenter Gabby Logan, could face financial ruin if a proposed development of massive electricity pylons is built near their Stirlingshire home.

Logan, 35, said his family had been offered just £150 in compensation from energy company Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE), which plans to build the huge power line from Beauly, near Inverness, to Denny, Stirlingshire.

The proposed 137-mile-long line has attracted a furious response, with campaign groups including Stirling Before Pylons and Revolt Against Pylons formed to fight the plans.

The couple, along with Kenny’s mother and two brothers, own three farms in Stirlingshire that are in the path of the new line.

The Logans had planned to build a development of about 40 new houses.

Kenny said: “My family could be hit hard by this. The farms are looking to diversify and that will be very difficult if there are pylons.”

SSE says the upgrade is vital to ensure reliable transmission of electricity from wind farms to the central belt and England.
