Ignoring results of green efforts

The recent approval by the Vermont Public Service Board of a controversial ridgeline wind factory in the Northeast Kingdom was passed despite overwhelming evidence that wind power holds no hope of replacing present sources of electricity. Why did the PSB not recognize this truth about wind energy production instead of choking on the smoke screen of federally propped up profiteers?

Evidence is now also mounting against another green miracle power source, ethanol. Surely the fact that Dow Chemical, Monsanto and Dupont had invested heavily in control and production of this plant-based fuel ought to have alerted North Americans that trouble lay ahead? Farmers took a gander at this goose’s golden egg and stopped growing much-needed varietal grains, replanting with massive amounts of profitable corn.

A CBC report from Montreal on Nov. 2 quotes a long-standing bagel business in this Canadian city as having to increase its prices twice in one year. The reason? The price of a bag of flour has doubled due to high demand for an ever decreasing supply for this grain crowded out of the marketplace by corn. Watch your local supermarket shelves for more increases as corn-fed meat goes the same way. And where will the truly starving of the world now get their essential assistance ?

Unforeseen consequences are one thing. Blatant ignorance of clear consequences is nothing short of criminal.
