Councillors’ wind farm cash hopes could be blown away

North Ayrshire Council are to set up a committee to decide how to spend revenue from windfarms in the area.

A meeting will take place today, Wednesday, that will crush the hopes two Ardrossan councillors had to keep any money from the windfarm at the town’s Busbie Muir in Ardrossan.

In a motion to North Ayrshire Council, councillors Tony Gurney and John Hunter, said: “North Ayrshire Council agrees that the funds received from Airtricity in respect of the windfarm behind Ardrossan, not already allocated to West Kilbride, be transferred into a special fund to be used for the benefit of the people of Ardrossan.

“The council agrees that decisions relating to the spending of this fund will be made to the local Area Committee.”

But now it looks as though a sub committee will be set up with representatives from across North Ayrshire who will be in charge of spending the revenue across the area.

The different areas will be the Three Towns, North Coast and Arran, the Garnock Valley and Irvine, Kilwinning, Dreghorn and Springside.
