Landscape experts have offered vastly differing advice to councillors on the visual impact 400ft wind turbines might have on Todmorden Moor.
In a report to the council, Lancashire County Council’s special landscape adviser, has come to the conclusion that they were acceptable in landscape and visual terms.
“Todmorden Moor is a fascinating, harsh and rugged historic landscape that owes much of its landscape character to many years of man’s activities including agriculture, transport and resource extraction particularly for power generation.
“The proposed wind farm would be a temporary feature that adds a new chapter to the landscape’s industrial history,” said the adviser in a report to Calderdale Council and Rossendale Council, which is considering plans on nearby Reaps Moor.
Earlier this year, Julie Martin Associates said they would blight the countryside and harm leisure opportunities.
Coronation Power, the company behind the schemes, said they would meet stringent sustainable development requirements and rigorous environmental impact laws.
The Open Spaces Society, a pressure group for common land, has opposed both schemes saying they would be totally out of scale and be able to be seen for miles around.
