West Grey has given their approval to a pair of test towers for a possible wind turbine project near Durham.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says the municipality has made zoning amendments to allow a meteorological test tower on a property in Bentinck Township, and another in Glenelg.
Eccles says the towers are already up, but needed the municipality’s blessing to operate.
Eccles says the towers will gather wind data for three years for Florida Power Light Energy.
But Eccles adds, even if all goes well with the testing, that companies is only looking to put up three or four wind turbines on each property – this is NOT going to be another Enbridge Kincardine wind farm.
Eccles says there have been a couple of residents expressing concerns about turbine-related issues like set backs from property, shadow flicker, noise, etc.
Eccles says all those issues would be addressed in an environmental assessment for the turbines, but they’re not even close to that point yet.
