Public meeting on wind energy survey

Members of the public have the opportunity to hear first hand about the results of a study that looks at the capacity for wind energy in the south and west of Berwick-upon-Tweed area of Northumberland.

The North East Assembly is holding a public presentation event followed by a question and answer session at 7 pm on Monday, October 22, at Berwick Rugby Club in Scremerston. The meeting will focus on the wind capacity study for the area.

The independent study was published by the NEA, in liaison with Northumberland County Council and Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council, and looked at the landscape and visual effects of wind farm development in the south and west of Berwick.

The study used the award-winning methodology developed to assess the landscape capacity to absorb wind development, which can be used to help inform decisions on planning applications.

Malcolm Bowes, assistant chief executive of the NEA, said: “The purpose of the meeting will not be to discuss the merits or otherwise of specific planning applications but the findings of the study.”
