Greed, not need, drives wind power

I noted in the Western Morning News of October 17 a very valid letter reference the wind farm on Braunton Downs.

Now it is announced that BT is proposing a wind farm at its site on the Lizard Peninsula at Goonhilly Down.

Once again greed rather than need is the motivation for building these monstrosities in Cornwall and the rest of the West country.

When will the public wake up and realise that the obscene subsidies that these developers receive from the Government are our money from hard earned work and from which taxes are deducted.

BT is the latest to climb on the bandwagon to grab the public’s money.

Wind turbines are expensive, inefficient and ugly white elephants which produce nothing like the energy the developers claim.

It is high time that the Minister for Energy, Malcolm Wicks, came down to the Westcountry to see for himself the devastation these wind farm developers are inflicting on our beautiful countryside.

He and the Government he “serves” are no longer democratic – they are dictating to us where and when these wind farms are to be without even looking for themselves.

Wind power does not work – certainly not for the folk in the areas where turbines are erected.
