The Cavalier County Zoning Board has approved adding 27 turbines to a 106-turbine wind farm being built near this town.
The additional turbines will increase the energy produced by an estimated 25 percent.
FPL Energy LLC, of Juno Beach, Fla., is building the Langdon Wind Energy Center as part of a partnership with Minnkota Power Cooperative of Grand Forks and Otter Tail Power Co. of Fergus Falls, Minn.
The 106 turbines should be operating by the end of the year, producing enough energy to power about 40,000 homes.
Construction manager Dick Rausch said a transmission study is needed before the 27 turbines can be added. The study should be finished next April, he said.
