Dufferin County CAO Linda Dean has served East Luther Grand Valley with a notice of objection to the rezoning of property for development of Grand Valley Wind Farms.
In a letter earlier this month “on behalf of the county,” Ms. Dean said the property in question is adjacent to the county’s proposed development of a thermal treatment facility (the approved site for waste management).
“At this point in time, the development planning includes a composting facility that is at the Request for Proposal stage, a thermal treatment facility, and we are in the preliminary stages of a hydrogen research facility.
“The 440-metre setback radius from turbines at locations 3 and 4 affect our property. These locations are shown on the plan titled ‘Grand Valley Wind Farm and Ashton Ridge Wind Farm Conceptual Site Plan’ dated Aug. 13, 2007.”
In the mean time, Amaranth planner Tracey Atkinson has written a 10- point questionnaire to ELGV planner Jack Cruttenden.
In it, Ms. Atkinson wants to know about setbacks from aerodromes and residences, whether transmission lines would be above or below ground, and the routing of such to transformer station, among other things.
The ELGV wind farms, unlike the Melancthon I and II ones, ARE under the province’s Standard Offer Program – each providing a maximum of 10 mW output. They tap into the local distribution grid, rather than to Hydro One’s 230 kV one.
