Campaigners bid to stop wind farm project

A group of residents has set up a campaign group to stop a wind farm being built near their villages in Northamptonshire.

Woodford Wind Farm Action Group was formed by residents from Preston Capes, Charwelton, Fawsley and Woodford Halse in opposition to a proposed 60ft meteorological mast in Charwelton Road between Woodford Halse and Preston Capes.

If permission for the mast is granted by Daventry District Council, it will be used to test the wind speeds to see if the land is suitable for a wind farm to be built.

Edward Giles, spokesman for the opposition group, said residents only found out about the plan at the last minute.

He said: “Our feeling is that it’s not appropriate.

“We are unhappy with the way this has been presented at the last minute, and we have only been given a few days to respond.

“There have been no notices put up around the area.”

He said that while the current application was only for a mast, he was concerned a wind farm could be put up speedily if the application went ahead.

Daventry District Council confirmed the authority had received an application for the mast.
