Calumet County Advocates to host meeting on turbines

While corporations focus on north-central Calumet County for placement of hundreds of 400-foot wind turbines, Calumet County Advocates has scheduled a public information meeting for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Hilbert Community Center, 45 N. Fifth St., about the ramifications of signing turbine contracts.

All concerned and interested residents and landowners are encouraged to attend this meeting.

“There is more than money to consider here,” said Ric Van Sistine, Hilbert, CCA spokesman. “We want to make sure that people understand both the health and safety aspects, including consequences to our increasingly endangered water resources.”

CCA notes that those considering signing contracts also need to be aware of other issues that have arisen, including farmland rental repercussions, transmission corridors, access roads, and decommissioning costs.
