Wind turbines offer unwise solution to energy needs

Kurt Williamsen, thank you and The Post-Crescent for shedding light on the renewable energy concept (The P-C, Sept. 26). For the past 37 years, since the first Earth Day, I have been an advocate of conservation. Your article points out the untold truth of a knee-jerk reaction in Washington and Madison to solve the electrical energy crisis by throwing our tax dollars into industrial wind turbine construction.

On the surface, wind turbines sound like the solution to the problem. As you stated, though, they aren’t practical.

Here in Calumet County, there has been a silent movement to construct hundreds of two-megawatt turbines, which will be sprinkled all over the county. Some are under construction at the southern end of Niagara Escarpment and more are slated to push north, along the Winnebago lakeshore.

For the past year and a half, a group called Concerned Citizens for Responsible Energy has been meeting every Sunday night to find a solution to the threat of hundreds of industrial turbines being constructed all over the county.

Residents of northeastern Wisconsin would be very interested to learn of the present construction proposals, who is behind the push to construct turbines, who will benefit from the projects (not us), why land owners feel compelled to rent their property for construction of turbines, and the effects on the environment, health, groundwater and citizen well-being as a result of living too near to turbines.
