Last week we told you about the Bingham County Planning and Zoning Commission approving a special use permit to Ridgeline Energy to install 150 windmills in Wolverine Canyon.
Now concerned land owners and people who use the area for recreation are fighting that decision.
Some of those in attendance at the hearing last Wednesday have banded together and hired an attorney to present an appeal to the Bingham County Commissioners.
Opponents feel the construction of the new wind farm will ruin the beauty of the area, not just because of the windmills themselves but the expansion of narrow roads, transmission lines and support structures to build the massive turbines.
Another concern the group has is that Ridgeline Energy has stated the majority of the power will be sent out of state to Utah, Oregon, or California.
LaVar Jolley, Opposes Windmills: “On their own website, they also indicate they envision Idaho becoming an exporter of power so clearly they’re not envisioning all the energy produced up there is going to benefit the people of this area.”
The appeal has to be turned in Tuesday the 9th and Jolley say’s they would like as many people who are opposed to the windmills to come forward.
