Protesters fighting to prevent the development of a windfarm near Alford are expected to make their case to councillors today.
Objectors have requested the opportunity to speak out against the construction of eight turbines at Clashnarae Hill, Kildrummy, when the Marr area committee meets to consider a planning application for the site.
Aberdeenshire Council has received 162 letters opposing the scheme, including an objection from the Cairngorms National Park Authority. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Scottish Natural Heritage have also expressed concern about the turbines, which would be more than 300ft high.
The windfarm application includes plans for the creation of access tracks, an anemometer mast, borrow pit and electrical and switching buildings.
Aberdeenshire Council’s planning officers have recommended the application is refused on the grounds that the development would detract from the quality of the landscape and that the loss of habitats would take many years to repair.
The Marr area committee is expected to make a decision when members meet at Finzean today.
