Residents living near the site of a proposed 119m wind turbine in South Staffordshire have been urged to show the scale of opposition to the plans.
Dozens of people packed into a meeting at Essington Community Centre in Hobnock Road to hear more about the scheme.
Ibstock Bricks, the firm behind it, angered villagers even more by failing to turn up to the meeting, where a representative had been expected to face anxious questions by residents living nearby.
Councillor David Clifft, chairman of Essington Parish Council, told those at the meeting they must make their voices heard in respect of the initial proposals, which are for a 40ft temporary mast to measure wind flow at Ibstock’s quarry in Warstones Road for up to 18 months.
If those plans were granted, Ibstock then hope to install a 119m permanent replacement, which would tower above the village near the M54.
He said: “We all know what Instock want to eventually see at the quarry, and that is for a 119m wind turbine, but it is vital that residents who are against the plans make representations about what has been applied for at this stage, which is a 40ft temporary mast.
“South Staffordshire District Council planning committee will only take into consideration objections relevant to this planning application, so letters must not make reference to the proposed wind turbine and the problems that might bring or their opinions will not count.” Residents cited a range of problems that could be caused by the temporary mast, including obstructing flight paths of the Air Ambulance.
