Gamesa near to finalising new wind energy project in Scotland — industry sources

Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologia SA is close to finalising a deal within the wind energy sector in Scotland, local Scottish industry sources close to the deal said.

They were unable to provide further details for the time being.

A Gamesa spokesperson could not confirm the news, but noted that the company currently has 20 wind farm projects in the UK.

The Basque engineering group is involved in both the construction and promotion of wind farms as well as the manufacturing and supply of wind turbines.

One of its key clients is major shareholder Iberdrola SA (other-otc: IBDRF.PK – news – people ), whose Scottish Power PLC arm was this week given clearance by local authorities to go ahead with the construction of a wind park in Harestanes for an investment of some 293 mln eur. The plant will have a capacity of around 213 megawatts.

The industry sources flagged that Scotland gives subsidies to companies which invest in renewable energies.

Earlier this year, Acciona SA was also reported as eyeing opportunities in the Scottish renewables market, but analysts said the group’s attention has probably been diverted by its joint bid with Enel SpA for Endesa SA (nyse: ELE – news – people ).

They highlighted the strong growth potential of marine wind energy projects in Scotland which Acciona’s EHN unit is developing in southern Spain.
