Plans for a windfarm with turbines bigger than the Big Ben clock tower have been put forward.
Broadview Energy Ltd wants to erect three turbines at the Hill of Fiddes, near Cultercullen.
The windfarm and a substation have the potential to provide enough energy to power 3,700 homes.
The turbines would stand 335ft (102m) from the ground to the tip of the blade. Big Ben clock tower in London is 314ft (96m).
The plan could face stiff opposition from some residents.
Other windfarm schemes in the North-east have led to the formation of campaign groups concerned about views being spoiled, the dangers for bats and birds from turbine blades, and noise disturbance.
A public exhibition was held at Cultercullen Primary School in June and Broadview Energy said comments have been taken into account in submitting the plans.
The group has outlined its proposals for a traffic management system that would be in place during the construction phase when up to 20 lorries would move to and from the site, about 10 miles north of Aberdeen.
Company director Jeffrey Corrigan said: “We believe this is a good location for a windfarm as the area has excellent wind speed, good access, very good connections to the National Grid.
“It is designated in the local authority strategy as suitable for this type of small scale development.”
If the plan is approved by Aberdeenshire Council it is anticipated work will start in 2009 and would take up to six months.
