Wind turbine concerns

Initially we approached this with an open mind. After much research this attitude has changed dramatically. Why?

1. Spiritual – Our environment allows us to recharge our inner self. This will be ruined forever. Who has that right?

2. Noise – Described by people here and overseas who have and are being affected that it is ‘like a train coming that never gets there’ or ‘a plane that never lands’. Some people have had to walk away from their property. It is documented that you can hear the turbines up to seven kilometres away. Who has the right to make many put up with that?

3. Flicker – They can cause a strobe effect within the home which can be difficult to block out. The effect can make people feel dizzy, lose balance and become nauseated. Even keeping the blinds drawn does not help in some instances. Why should people have to draw their blinds anyway?

4. Wildlife – Information from interstate and overseas does not indicate that this industry is kind to any form of wildlife that crosses their path. So do we ignore this?

5. Degradation of landscape – These machines are huge. They can be over 100 metres to the hub. We complain about the mining industry scarring our region. This landscape is unique. Why are we not protecting it from everything?

6. Property devaluation – Overseas and interstate evidence has noted that property values not only decrease markedly in relation to properties bordering the installations but the overall area. We believe that people have already suffered loss as a result of this proposal. Why should many suffer financial loss so that a very few can gain?

For the angst windfarms cause people living around the nominated sites (across Australia) and the information about their ineffectiveness we are calling for all wind installations, Australia wide, to be put on hold until a national code for the wind industry is put in place.

In conclusion – Germany currently has around 18,000 turbines, so why are they installing up to 26 new coal fired plants? How effective is the wind industry?
