Wind farm's poll support is rubbished

An online poll which states strong levels of support for the proposed Sixpenny Wood wind farm have been rubbished.

The project’s promoter, Your Energy Limited, says that the survey found that the majority of local residents support the Government’s renewable energy agenda, with nearly 70 per cent believing that wind energy is a good way of achieving it.

It added that on a local level, more than half of respondents said they supported the proposed 10 turbine wind farm scheme between Eastrington, Gilberdyke, Kilpin and Laxton.

Matt Kelly, development manager at Your Energy Limited, said: “The results of the poll are very encouraging.

“We are delighted with the local response and are pleased that people feel we have listened and that we have incorporated their views into our proposal.”

Howden Parish and Goole Town Councils have also voted to back the plans.

But Sixpennywood-Not group spokesman James Stephenson, said that previous local polls had shown the opposite.

He revealed that a meeting, held in Eastrington on Tuesday and organised by the Parish Council, showed that the majority were against it.

And he added that from 120 people who attended a meeting in Laxton, not one was for the application.

He said: “It is quite amazing how statistics can be manipulated.

“Their survey online doesn’t ask where you live or ask whether you support wind energy on or off shore.

“We urge local residents to go to the council offices in Howden and look at the survey which clearly says there will be a number of bird deaths as a result of this.”

He added: “The turbines will be three times the height of the Howden Minster and will dwarf the entire area.

“It is in the wrong place and we urge the planning officers to accept this is not in the right area.”
