Governor Carcieri’s administration starts vetting potential windmill sites today. He’s scheduled to convene a meeting this morning involving people who live or work near places where wind turbines could be feasible.
Carcieri’s administration wants 15 percent of the state’s energy supply to come from wind power. A study released earlier this year says there’s enough wind, particularly along the coastline, to meet that goal.
But government officials say the real question is, where should the windmills be placed? Other wind power proposals have faced stiff opposition in New England. In some cases, residents have feared they might damage pristine ocean or mountain views. People will start discussing possible locations at today’s meeting.
