Controversial plans for four wind turbines on the doorstep of two villages near Yarmouth have taken a step forward with the submission of a planning application.
Lowestoft-based SLP Energy is proposing to build the windfarm on agricultural land between Hemsby and Ormesby.
The planning application submitted to Yarmouth Borough Council is accompanied by the findings of a two-year environmental impact assessment (EIA) which has examined such issues as the historic environment and local ecology.
The public is being invited to view a non-technical summary of the EIA at the borough council’s planning department, and Yarmouth, Caister and Martham libraries.
SLP energy onshore development manager Paul Smith said: “Our findings indicate the project will not have any long-term adverse effects on the environment.
“Furthermore, this project will help contribute to the region’s renewable energy targets and potentially provide the equivalent of more than 5,500 homes with clean, green energy.”
Local residents have so far shown considerable misgivings to the scheme, especially being concerned about the scale of the turbines.
After the plans were unveiled in June Ormesby ward councillor Charles Reynolds said the feedback he had received had been totally negative and that people were “deeply concerned” about the size of the turbines, 125m high from base to blade tip.
