Plan for another wind farm

Renewable Energy Company Airtricity has announced its proposal to submit a planning application for a wind farm of up to 11 turbines on Paul’s, Wester Bullaford and Luckett Moors, in North Devon.

A 22MW Three Moors wind farm would produce electricity equivalent to the demand of approximately 12,300 homes, or more than a third of the households in North Devon, and would save the annual release of approximately 67,227 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The site lies between the B3227 and A361, north of the village of Knowstone and 17 miles south east of Barnstaple, and is currently used for agricultural purposes.

Gerry Burke, Airtricity Development Manager for England & Wales added: “We are confident that the Three Moors site could play a key role in the development of renewable energy in Devon. The site lies within one of the areas that have been identified by Devon County Council as suitable locations for onshore wind developments. Airtricity has undertaken a comprehensive environmental assessment of the site. The company is also undertaking a thorough consultation process with the local community and environmental bodies in terms of the development of the proposal.”

As part of the ongoing public consultation process, two exhibitions will be held next month as follows:

* Tuesday, September 4, 2pm-8pm

Knowstone Village Hall, Knowstone

* Wednesday, September 5, 2pm-8pm

Bishop’s Nympton Village Hall, Broad Park Lane, Bishop’s Nympton

Invitation letters are being sent to households surrounding the site, and adverts are being placed in local newspapers.

It is envisaged that the proposed wind farm will contribute £3.6 million towards the local and regional economy. A community fund of up to £22k per annum will also be established should the wind farm be given the go ahead.
