Decision on Burnham-On-Sea wind farm due in November

A decision on whether controversial plans to build a wind farm on the outskirts of Burnham will proceed will be made in November, it was announced on the final day of this week’s appeal hearing.

Planning inspector Robin Brookes of The Planning Inspectorate told the audience on Thursday morning (August 23rd): “My best estimate for a decision is Friday November 23rd.”

It comes after supporters and opponents to the project made closing statements at the appeal hearing, which was held in Burnham’s Princess Hall.

Mr Brookes will now decide whether the scheme to build four or five wind turbines – each one almost 80m high – on land off Stoddens Lane goes ahead.

He heard reports from Sedgemoor District Council, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Brent Knoll Parish Council, kNOll to Wind Farm, FORCE, and Next Generation Ltd, the firm behind Ecotricity, which is proposing the project.

Ecotricity’s hopes of building the wind farm were originally dashed last August when Sedgemoor planners turned down the scheme. It submitted its appeal earlier this year.
