Stockyard Hill wind farm opponents still worried

Opponents of the proposed Stockyard Hill wind farm west of Ballarat, in central Victoria, remain unhappy with the proposal.

The company behind the plan began its public consultation phase on the weekend.

But a spokeswoman for the Western Plains Landscape Guardians, Cathy Franzose, says Wind Power still will not confirm the number of turbines involved.

She says the company displayed comparative posters of wind turbines and coal mines, but will not back up its claims about the amount of power the turbines create, or the savings in greenhouse gas emissions.

“It would only be reasonable if they had the data and the information to back that up. They make claims about how much greenhouse gas emissions will be displaced, but they cannot prove that that’s actually happening in Australia,” she said.

“They won’t even give us the amount of electricity that’s being produced by their wind farm at Wonthaggi.”
