I am writing with reference to your article “Wind Turbine Noise ‘Not an Issue'”(August 4), and can only shake my head in despair.
It is outrageous that the Government, as well as Regen SW, is still running roughshod over the people of this country.Several statements from sufferers who are affected by turbine noise are available on the internet, together with supporting evidence from scientists, engineers, doctors and other organisations.
The report issued by the Noise Association called “Location, Location, Location” quite clearly points out that there are areas which are unsuitable for wind development projects.
The author also recommends that the minimum distance between industrial wind turbines and dwellings should be extended to one mile! The existing guidelines (ETSU-R-97) used by the Government are based on turbines half the size of today’s monstrosities, which are clearly inadequate.
One of the wind power stations evaluated in that report is the Forest Moor cluster of turbines situated on the outskirts of Bradworthy, North Devon.
The report clearly shows that the noise emissions are excessive and do not comply with the guidelines for acceptable noise levels and this report can be supported by statements from locals, who are still suffering. It also proves that inappropriate measuring techniques used following Government guidelines, do not show the real level of low frequency noise.
I feel it is a case of serious negligence by the Government and Regen SW to dismiss outcries and complaints from the public, who have a right to enjoy the peace and quiet of their homes.
Furthermore, has nobody as yet realised that the actual output of these wind factories is negligible in the whole scheme of energy production?
