A business is launching yet another fight against plans for a wind farm which could bring an end to its operations.
Peterlee Parachute Centre fears it might have to put a stop to jumps at its airfield in Shotton Colliery if the go-ahead is given to build the turbines at Edder Acres farm.
Centre boss Ian Rosenvinge is preparing to lodge his objection to the two 110metre structures being built, with parachutists also launching online petitions in the hope of putting a stop to the development.
Letters have also been submitted from skydiving fans from as far away as Banbury and London against the plan, which would see the turbines built within 1.5
miles of the centre site.
However, the family which owns the farm has says application put in by A7 Energy has won the support of locals.
The Musgraves, who have lived on the farm since 1939, said they were “devastated” when the plan was not approved when it was first submitted in October 2005 and needed it to keep the business going.
Mr Rosenvinge told the Echo: “I have sympathy with the Musgraves, but unfortunately I’ve got to stick to my guns or it could have a drastic effect on us.”
He added that new hangers were planned for the site, that £16,000 had recently been spent on improving the access road to the airfield.
But Norma Musgrave, who lives at Edder Acres Farm with her family, said: “The people are for it again because they are absolutely sick to death of the aeroplanes.
“It’s not that we want to put him out of business, that’s not the purpose of it.”
