Blight to no purpose

According to the Government’s own figures, if the UK produces 10% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2010, we will be cutting carbon emissions by 2.5 million tonnes a year. This is equivalent to 9.2 million tonnes of CO2.

The Energy Information Administration of the Department of the Environment estimates that world CO2 emissions in 2010 will be 27,715 million tonnes. So a quick bit of mathematics shows that the whole of the UK will be reducing world emissions by 0.03% – ie: just three ten-thousandths! What possible effect can this tiny reduction have on climate change? Could we now stop blighting Welsh hills with useless wind turbines?
