The application to build a windfarm near Ceres is premature because other options have not been fully explored, according to a local action group.
Protect Rural East Fife (PREF) has joined hundreds of other groups and individuals in objecting to the plan by EnergieKontor to erect five turbines at Gathercauld.
In a submission to Fife Council, group chair Paul Strachan said an anemometer mast related to the proposal had only recently been erected.
“It is obvious that wind measurements have not been collected from the site for
sufficient time to evaluate the wind resource,” said Mr Strachan.
More suitable locations should also be sought before deciding on Gathercauld.
“In particular, there are many brownfield sites, areas of deprivation in need of regeneration, unpopulated and bland landscapes in the UK which should be considered in the first instance prior to the development and ruin of beautiful landscape,” he said.
“In our opinion, the development would be overly intrusive and the character of the area would be degraded from a natural scenic landscape to a standard ‘industrialised’ landscape.”
Meanwhile, a national environmental charity has also joined the long list of objectors.
The Association for the Protection of Rural Scotland said the planned turbines “would produce a dominant and detrimental impact on the setting of the village”.
