Wind farm removal responsibility discussed

MONMOUTH – The Zoning Board of Appeals met last Wednesday to discuss who would be responsible for the removal of the wind farms proposed for Warren County when they become unusable.

The board made a recommendation to the county board that the company who would build the wind farms should be held responsible for the payment of their removal, not Warren County taxpayers.

“We don’t want the county liable for that…” said Bill Reichow, chairman of the county board.

The area that appears to have the most interest for a wind farm is the northeast quadrant of Warren County. However, according to Reichow, there are a number of areas that would qualify or be eligible for a wind farm.

Members also discussed a special exception use for a stone quarry in the southeast quadrant of Warren County. The quarry would be adjacent to the current quarry.
