Public Inquiry for wind farm plan

A contentious application for a windfarm development in the region was discussed at a meeting of Scottish Borders Council’s Development and Building Control Committee.

In February this year an application was made by North British Windpower Ltd for a 48 turbine development at Fallago Rig in the Lammermuir Hills.

As statutory consultees on the proposal, Scottish Borders council objected to the application on the grounds that such a development would have a detrimental impact on landsscape character, countryside amenity and the integrity of the Lammermuir Hills.

The Scottish Executive have since received notice from the Scottish Executive of the intention to hold a Public Local Inquiry to determine the outcome of the application.

At the Development and Building Control Committee, it was decided that the Council will be represented at the inquiry by an independent planning and landscape consultant to provide evidence on their behalf.

A spokesperson for the Council said that they plan to liaise with East Lothian Council and look at the possibility of sharing a consultant to form a united approach.
