Energy company, AGL has withdrawn its application to build a windfarm at Dollar in South Gippsland.
The company applied to the State Government for a planning permit to build 48 turbines north of Foster.
In a letter to the Planning Minister today, the company says it is withdrawing its application due to changing economics.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Peter Ryan says it’s a great result for residents opposed to the project.
“It is gone and that will be a huge relief to the people of South Gippsland who have united over these past couple of years to contest this,” he said.
“It is a great piece of news,” he said.
The Liberal Leader Ted Bailleu has also welcomed AGL’s decision.
“It was not a proposal that was welcomed, it was not a proposal that was supported by a council and to now after all of these years, find that AGL have withdrawn their proposal I think is in many respects, very cynical,” he said.
“I think it’s designed to prevent the release of information which might have put the government in an embarrassing situation,” Mr Baillieu said.
A spokesman for the Energy Minister Peter Batchelor says there are enough projects planned for Victoria to allow that target to be reached.
