Landowners appeal to town to stop wind project

FREEDOM—Landowners near the proposed site of three electricity generating wind turbines have appealed to the town to stop the project.

Steve Bennett, Erin Bennett-Wade and Jeff Keating, all of whom own property near the Beaver Ridge site, have asked the town’s Board of Appeals to overturn a permit issued last month to Competitive Energy Services to build the three 400-foot wind turbines.

In the appeal, which was filed on Wednesday, appealing property owners argue that the planning board did not have the authority to grant the permit because the turbines cannot be delivered to the site without trespassing across private property.

The landowners also argued that the planning board should have waited until the turbine project is approved by the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.

No date has been scheduled for the board of appeals to consider the application. It is unclear if the appeals board has the authority to hear the appeal.
