Outside money divides our town

I wish Invenergy LLC had never drawn its bull’s-eye on the top of the Moresville Range. Saturday’s Music on the Mountain festival on top of Mount Utsayantha was a wonderful way to share Stamford’s village park with the greater Northern Catskills community. It was a gorgeous day, all of the musicians are very talented, the vendors and volunteers worked very hard and the organizers deserve a lot of praise for a job well-done (especially Aree Bray)!

However, it was never made so clear that a wealthy corporation from Chicago has single-handedly divided our small-town neighborhood and created a war where once was none.

The opposing energies on the sides of our historic fire tower were very uncomfortable. I can’t help but wonder: How can an issue that is so divisive do anything good for our town? If the issue was never raised in the first place, maybe we wouldn’t have neighbors fighting with neighbors and fathers not speaking to sons.

Finally, I have to say that I felt very uncomfortable riding in the “courtesy” shuttle plastered with “Yes, to Clean Energy” signs and found that tactic to be the most telling of the fact that “money talks.”

I wish we didn’t have to defend ourselves from the arrowheads of greed, and I can’t imagine what the feeling on the mountaintop might be in a few years if the ridge line is populated by 400-foot monsters.
