The Carrollton Town Board adopted a law Wednesday night that will allow wind turbines for commercial or private production of electrical power.
“We’re in the process now of getting names of developers, and we’ll ask them if they want to do a test,” Town Supervisor Joyce E. Lucco said. “There are only two locations where it would be possible to put them if the wind is sufficient.”
Those locations are at the top of Leonard Run and Bald Knob, she said.
Lucco said Limestone village officials invited a firm owned by B. Thomas Golisano, owner of the Buffalo Sabres, to make a presentation. The mayor and trustees then pressed the town to write a letter of intent that would open the door to a free feasibility study performed by the Golisano firm.
While the Town Board researched other wind projects and considered passing a law the village officials became impatient.
In a letter dated Aug. 1, Limestone Mayor Ralph Bottone accused town officials if keeping the requested feasibility study quiet and lacking interest in bettering the community. He suggested board members would be wasting their time to seek re-election this fall.
Lucco said Carrollton currently has no zoning and none of the board members had been prepared to seek out a single developer.
