Controversial plans to build a wind farm on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea are back in the spotlight this week as Ecotricity, the company behind the plan, launches its bid to overturn the decision to turn down its application.
The appeal hearing opened on Tuesday (August 7th) at 10am in Burnham’s Princess Hall and now runs for at least the next eight days, but with over 80 documents of information to sift through, some believe it could extend beyond a fortnight.
Ecotricity wants to build five wind turbines – each one almost 80m high – at a farm off Stoddens Lane, but its hopes were dashed last August when Sedgemoor planners turned down the scheme.
This week, 12 campaigners from the Knoll To Wind Farm group will submit evidence in their fight against the application, while pressure group FORCE (Families For Clean Energy) will argue in favour of the plan.
The Planning Inspectorate announced earlier this year that the hearing will be overseen by planning inspector David Roberts Cunningford. Burnham Town Council and Brent Knoll Parish Council are being represented by a joint solicitor, Tony Mason.
