The community of Hamlin is one step closer to deciding whether to allow wind turbine farms.
The town’s wind tower committee has been investigating whether parts of the town would be suitable for wind turbine development and presented its findings to the town board Monday snight.
The committee is concerned their deadline to do so was pushed up several months.
Linda DeRue, committee chairperson, said, “I feel relieved to some point, and I feel very frustrated that we weren’t able to complete our project in the way we were supposed to be able to. We were supposed to have until December to do this.”
Troy Nesbitt belongs to the preservation group.
“We feel that the wind tower committee has done a wonderful job,” he said. “Although, we don’t believe their recommendations are quite strict enough.”
Nesbitt also said, “We don’t believe that wind farms belong near people’s houses…Although we’re not saying keep them out of town completely, we are saying keep them away from people’s homes as much as possible.”
DeRue said the presentation was advanced over pending legislation that would give the state the power to decide where wind farms should go.
