If there was ever any doubt that our politicians sometimes act more like dictators than democratically elected representatives of us, the people, then in my opinion their antics over the energy debate regarding wind farms is confirmation of this political anomaly.
The latest outrage is Carmarthenshire Council’s decision to allow a massive wind farm on the Betws Mountain.
This is despite 473 letters of objection, opposition from the councils of Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot and also from the Brecon Beacons National Park (Evening Post, June 19).
AM Andrew Davies, the architect of Tan8, was reported in the Welsh press to have conceded that wind farms in Wales are doing nothing to cut the greenhouse gases blamed for climate change (Cambrian News, October 7, 2004).
The new energy minister at the Assembly, Jane Davidson, has picked up the Tan8 baton and has made it clear that she is all for wind farms in Wales despite massive opposition by the locals wherever wind farms are proposed.
As a professional consulting electrical engineer with 27 years experience’ in the electricity supply industry, I am quite baffled by the above.
It brings to mind the Shakespearean quotation “Methinks there is something rotten in this state of Denmark”!
