Protect our countryside

I would like to comment on the decision of Carmarthenshire Council to allow a company to construct a wind farm on Mynydd Betws.

This beautiful upland area has always been the natural habitat of threatened bird species like the ring ouzel, rock and meadow pipits and the now rare Wheatear. The scenario facing the uplands now is thousands of tonnes of concrete to house these carbuncles they call wind machines, and miles of road.

These companies are only interested in the grants and funds that are made available to them by the Government.

However, the actions of a few misguided individuals in granting this application depresses me even further.

They would rather listen to Government energy boffins, who profess that these machines – which are only 30 per cent efficient – are the answer.

If councillors will not protect the Carmarthenshire countryside from such developments, then who will?
