Wind farm fear

Plans to build a 13-turbine wind farm west of Purnim received five submissions including three objections from the public.

Wind Farm Developments lodged plans with Moyne Shire to construct a $63 million wind farm across 8000 hectares of cleared land west of Ballangeich to produce electricity for up to 17,000 household each year.

The council will hold a hearing into the development tomorrow from 9.30am at its Mortlake office.

Moyne Shire director of planning and environment Greg Anders said objectors had concerns about visual impacts, noise from turbines, fire risks and impacts on wildlife.

Objectors have concerns about the impact on bird life including wedge-tailed eagles, black cockatoos and sea eagles, Mr Anders said.

There are also concerns by the Department of Sustainability and Environment about the southern bent-wing bat habitat.
