Parish councils around a Shropshire site where giant wind turbines could be built have been urged to host public meetings as an energy company moves forward with its plans.
North Shropshire MP, Owen Paterson, who is opposing a scheme for seven, 110-metre high turbines in fields near Dorrington, between Woore and Loggerheads, said parish councils had a vital part to play in giving residents the chance to glean more information.
Dutch firm, Nuon Renewables, wants to build the turbines on the north Shropshire/Staffordshire border. It recently held an exhibition at Woore Victory hall to give details about the multi-million pound plan.
Following the exhibition Mr Paterson held a meeting with Staffordshire MP, Bill Cash, county councillor Brian Gillow and representatives from parish councils.
He said Norton-in-Hales Parish Council was planning to hold a public meeting about the plans.
“I hope the others will follow suit. If representatives from Nuon and also from the protest group were invited to meetings in the parishes, each side could give their views and residents would have the chance to put questions,” he added.
He said that having visited Nuon’s exhibition, he had been struck by the lack of information from the company. Nuon already has planning permission from North Shropshire District Council to put up a test mast to measure wind speeds.
