With the odd weather bringing speculation that global warming is showing its ugly effects, environmental awareness is on the up.So should we be welcoming proposals for wind turbines? Not according to artist Christine Lovelock.
She said: “Wind power on an industrial scale is not as clean and ‘green’ as it is made out to be. There are other, far better ways to do it.”
Last May Christine undertook a month long walk around Devon and painted various locations of the unspoilt landscapes.
She wants to raise awareness of the environmental damage she thinks would be done should wind turbine plans go ahead. The daughter of renowned scientist James Lovelock is holding an exhibition at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple until July 28 to showcase her protest paintings.
The exhibition will be online at the same time.
On her month long walk, Christine met and stayed with local influential people including MPs Nick Harvey and Geoffrey Cox, Policy Director of the Renewable Energy Foundation John Constable, and Green Party candidate Ricky Knight.
Christine said: “Whether people agree with me or not, I hope they will enjoy the paintings in their own right.”
