Airfield windfarm plan confirmed

A company has confirmed it will apply for planning permission to build a £40m windfarm at an airfield in Cornwall.

Community Windpower wants to build 20 wind turbines at Davidstow airfield in near Camelford, creating enough electricity to power 28,000 homes.

Each of the turbines would be about 414ft (126 metres) high.

Community Windpower will put their plans for Davidstow on display at Camelford School and at the town’s annual summer show.

Rod Wood, chief executive of Community Windpower, says the former World War II airfield is the best location for wind power.

It would bring the number of existing or planned windfarms in north Cornwall to five.
