Skyline pressure group calls for independent turbine monitor

Save our Skylines lobby group is calling for the energy production of wind turbines in the Fens to be monitored by the district council.

Group leader John Stoneman says Fenland council must take over the responsibility of monitoring, currently carried out by site operators.

He says there is a condition attached to grant applications for Fen turbines that they should be removed within a certain time if they fail to produce electricity for a continual 12-month period.

“At present it is the operators of these sites that monitor energy production, I do believe this rather strange arrangement must now cease, and those who place such conditions must now monitor,” he said. “Independent monitoring must take place at least once a month, and its findings published, so that those who pay for these developments may have accurate information about wind energy production.”

The lobby group, now known as Cambridge Environmental and Wildlife Protection, says if the council cannot appoint an independent skilled energy production engineer, the group can supply one.
