A proposed mast to measure wind speed and direction at a Freuchie site has been condemned as “an eyesore for miles around”.
Wind Direct Ltd. has applied to install a 60 metre high anemometry mast at Orkie Farm, a base for vegetable firm Kettle Produce.
Data from the mast, intended to be removed after two years, will be used to assess the site for a possible wind energy development.
The application, lodged in April, is likely to go before a Fife Council committee in August.
The plan has attracted objections from Freuchie Community Council and some residents, who have labelled the mast out of character for the area.
In a letter to the local authority, Freuchie Community Council secretary Adrian Grant said his group opposed any major wind turbine development in the Howe of Fife.
Given this, the community council saw no reason to accept the mast either.
